Meet Tan
Fifty-five years of baking, one wee book.
I grew up on a small dairy and sheep farm on the West Coast of Scotland, where baking and cooking were part of everyday life. I was born Catherine, but because of a childhood speech difficulty I called myself “Tan” — and the name has stayed with me ever since.
More than 55 years on, I’m still baking, experimenting, and learning. For over a decade I’ve shared what I know through baking demonstrations — first around my kitchen table, and later on social media.
This book brings together ten of my favourite bakes, each with a link to a step-by-step video so you can see exactly what’s happening as the bake unfolds. My hope is to make baking clear, achievable, and to give you the confidence to have a go.
At the heart of this book is creating a lasting record for my family and for anyone who wants to bake along with me. I hope these recipes and videos bring you warmth and encouragement, whether you already love to bake or are just beginning.
